Thank you so much for making this – it was easily in my top 3 games of all time and for years I’ve hoped and prayed for some sort of re-release of the console version. Just been playing the beta for the last few hours and I’m just in absolute shock that this exists and is as awesome a version as it is. Absolutely thrilled that there’s people out there that love this game as much as I do and are willing to put in so much hard work to making this a reality.

this IS the greatest game of all time! …and now an utter coding genius has come along and re-made it for our gaming pleasure. The beta is brilliant and i’ve only noticed two bugs (1. the machine gun sometimes randomly fires and, 2. some extreme amount of damage taken from very small heights, especially when walking…no running over platforms that drop down to the floor. example = set palace). One more thing that i’d like to know is are there any cheats for this version, and if so what are they and how to activate them. It’s not like I need them as i pretty much mastered most of this entire game having played it hundreds of times on PSX, but would be useful if one such as myself wants to go at it again with no fear of health loss, etc… Once again thank you soo much and if you ever get the right to release a physical copy count me in!!

In the console, type either one of these cheats:

      moses (god mode)
      noclip (no clip mode)
      fly (fly mode)
mapall (maps all of the automap)
      give weapons (give all weapons)
      give artifacts (give all artifacts)
give ability 0 (gives Dolphin mode)
give ability 1 (gives Vulture mode)

    • I found out that the speed you fall in Powerslave EX is faster than the console version. That’s why you lose health from small heights.

Just finished this game for the first time a few minutes ago. What an excellent game overall. Had zero crashes and ran very well the whole way through. The only problem I had is that you can’t quicksave so I hope you add in a quicksave feature in the future.

    • Mark says:

I’ll go with that too. Back in the early days of console shooters we accepted restarting levels after being killed but now some of us just don’t have the time to constantly go over and over entire levels after a sudden death. PLEASE include a quick-save feature!

Do you by any chance have Data Execution Prevention enabled for all software? I use XP SP3 and it works perfectly. DEP will cause a crash like this for some software. If it is enabled for all programs, either make an exception for the game executable or change it to only apply to OS files.

Hey Kaiser… There was no reply button for your last comment to me, wanted to say I hope your personnal stuff is nothing bad. Believe me I understand, I started a project some years ago called ResiMod for Doom 3 and it took up all my spare time, I had to stop in the end cos I just didn’t have the time… And I was doing some work for Goldeneye Source last year, but had to stop work on that too cos of personnal problems and computer issues… I hope one day to finish ResiMod and my work elsewhere if I ever find the time. I personnaly cannot thank you enough for this game, you did an awesome job… And I decided to put it on again last night and carry on regardless of the jumping issue, and I got right near the end of the game now, I forgot how awesome the Sunken Palace level was, the attention to detail underwater, the fact everything looks like it’s been underwater for centuries really impressed me, I adore the swimming sections on this game. I look forward to any future updates, I’ll wait however long it takes,.. Take care πŸ™‚

This… is .. terrible news… So I assume there are some legal problems?

Just a suggestion: What if Powerslave EX would require the original game rom to run (just like Doom 64 EX). Wouldn’t it solve the legal problems?

In that case you would only provide your own work (= the application itself) while all the artwork, etc… would be somehow extracted from the rom before playing.

Despite being labeled ‘beta’, it’s actually quite polished. There are some small, non-technical issues and some things that would be nice (like normal saving and quicksaving that DOOM 64 EX got that the original never had) but I consider ‘beta’ to be Kaiser being humble as it’s definitely not beta quality. Who does the game IP even belong to anymore? The original developer has been dead for ages and the publisher I haven’t heard of since (isn’t it some toy company?) Who exactly does this port hurt? There’s always some fucking piece of shit out there who has to ruin it for everyone. You know who you are. If anyone still needs it just get in touch. I’m not going to let these trouser stains destroy something awesome.

Maybe this isn’t the end after all. It could be that Kaiser and Night Dive Studios are working together right now (as they have done with Strife: Veteran Edition) and aim at releasing a sort of “Powerslave: Complete Edition” which would include upgrades of the PSX version, the Saturn version and the PC version in one package.

And like Strife it would then be released on Steam.

I sure as hell wouldn’t mind paying a few bucks to play this thing…

  33. Ryan says:

If he were to change it to be like DOOM 64 where you provide the game data, you would have to provide an ISO of the game CD which is probably a couple hundred MB at least (up to 650 MB if it uses the whole CD) and the game would have to have a tool to process it, picking out what it needs in some kind of data conversion like DOOM 64 does. Honestly just selling the port like what was done with Strife and splitting the profits with the IP owner would be fine too. It’s pretty sad that we’ve hit a wall after such a short amount of time. I really want to see this thing be successful.

Will the port continue to work with those of us who have the game data you provided?

  35. Please tell me what happened I need to know.

    Like

    • Ryan says:

Cease and desist most likely because it includes the game data as well. Reverse-engineering software for the purpose of porting it to another platform is legal, but distributing the game data is not. I think we all thought it would fly under the radar because it’s a game that really has had no attention in a really long time but I suspect the interview with Kaiser over the thing and word getting out got him caught as fast as what happened, so now to continue offering it he either has to find a way to use a copy of the original game data provided by the user like DOOM 64 EX does, or sell the whole port, game data and all, like Strife Veteran’s Edition. I personally prefer the latter as Kaiser’s port is not a straight port of the PS1 version and I think has some things from the other versions of the game, and thus providing game data would be very complex, needing potentially the PS1 game CD, the Saturn game CD, and possibly the DOS version installer. If it is just from the PS1 CD, you could potentially take the first route, but the way the game data has been converted by Kaiser likely saves a lot of space by using better filetypes and compression, so I’m thinking the latter may be what ends up happening for the best end result.

      Like

      • Ryan says:

Something like being sold on GOG, although I actually don’t like installers and would have been satisfied with the way it was being distributed. That’s assuming he can even strike such a deal.

I’d like to say that I for one would prefer to pay for a download of the full game. I used to have the original Saturn version, but no longer, as I’m not a retro collector and don’t hold onto old systems and games when they their next gen replacements come out. Therefore the option of having the original game and doing things the way you did with Doom64 would mean having to track down a copy of Exhumed somewhere. I suppose I could look into the darkest reaches of the internet, to see if I get get the data from a dodgy site, but I would prefer to do things legally.
The main reason I would prefer to pay is that it would leave your EX version free to offer versions of all three originals, (Saturn, Playstation and PC,) which would otherwise cause even more hassles doing it the other way, by having to track down all three original games.
Considering the game’s age, I think $5 would be a reasonable price to charge, which I would happily pay, in order to experience a rush of nostalgia.

I really get mad when things like this happen. If it was not for Kaiser Powerslave would probably still be forgotten and eventually as we ,the gamers who originally played the game get older ,probably we ourselves would have forgotten it as a distant memory . In any case i hope some solution could be reached(either simply providing only the mod installer and having to own/find the original cd,or have the full game available from gog at a low price if all this hussle was done because of the greediness of someone involved in the original game.)
